Alloy Arts District
In 2017 we set off to pursue a goal. There was a desire to create something that wasn't in existence the way we thought it should be. Grit Los Angeles was a one-chair studio, in front of a large window on Molino Street, in the Arts District.
At the time, the neighborhood players were Urth Caffe, Villains Tavern, and Resident. Only Urth is still operating currently, but a wave of new businesses have come. Some have made it, and others have closed down just as fast as they opened.
Favorite Pours
In Japan, even the simplest things are approached with precision. A towel is folded carefully. A meal is plated thoughtfully. A greeting is delivered with quiet sincerity. Beer is no exception.
While much of the world treats beer as casual and disposable, Japanese brewing culture approaches it with restraint and discipline. The result is something remarkably refined — crisp lagers with balance, clarity, and subtle depth. Nothing excessive. Nothing competing for attention. Every element exists exactly where it should.
The Original Trendsetter
His haircut in the film isn’t chasing attention. A mid-length scissor cut with a natural taper, it frames the face without hard edges, moves cleanly through heat and humidity, and suggests discipline without rigidity. It’s what you get when classic barbering meets modern velocity.
Matcha Gin
An earthy, vibrant highball with umami and citrus notes, inspired by Japanese tea ceremonies.
Ingredients
1 oz Gin (e.g., Roku Gin)
1/2 oz Green Chartreuse
1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1/4 oz Honey Syrup (1:1 honey to water)
1 tsp High-Grade Matcha Powder
3 oz Sparkling Water
Garnish: Lemon twist and matcha-dusted rim
Neighborhood + Art
Working at The Oliver Club means being a part of LA’s Arts District. A neighborhood filled with some of the most amazing and diverse spots for food, drinks, or whatever you’re feeling at the moment.
When I’m not behind the chair, you can usually catch me exploring these places. Whether I’m grabbing a coffee before the first client, unwinding with a drink after hours, or soaking up inspiration from galleries and street art, here’s a look at where you might find me when the clippers are off.
You can always catch me with a coffee in hand, and there’s no shortage of spots in the Arts District that can accommodate that. But there are a few that keep me coming back.
The Daily Grind
Well six months at the Oliver Club has flown by. When I first stepped into this space, I knew I had the skills, but I also understood that being a barber here would push me in new ways, both professionally and personally. The Oliver Club isn’t just a barber shop; it’s an environment built on precision, culture, and high standards. It’s a place where every cut, every conversation, and every detail matters.
